News in and around Rippey:

Jeff and Laura Spartz of Eagan, MN were house guests of his sister Connie Neese.  They were also spending their weekend traveling on to Missouri Valley to see the display of the ship BERTRAND artifacts.  Laura’s friend is the curator of this project and was recently featured in the Sunday Des Moines Register and a copy of the article was found.  The ladies also belong to a “Jane Austin” society. The  Spartzes then traveled on to Lincoln, NE,  to visit family.

Ben and Midge Vannatta attended a birthday party for their two great-granddaughters, Rylee, age 6, and Nora, age 3, daughters of Kyle and Jaimee Mower of Rippey. The color pink was prevalent for these two “princesses!”  Dinner was served and a beautiful pink cake was served with ice cream.  The presents were opened and the girls received pink bicycles with training wheels.  Rylee’s had a pink basket on the handles and Nora’s had a basket behind the seat to hold a Barbie doll.  Grandparents Gary and Kathi Hoskins of Jefferson and Bryan and Teresa Mower of Guthrie Center, great-grandparents Wendell and Darlene Hoskins of Jefferson, and also Uncle Jake and Aunt Becci Butcher and baby Will of Rochester, IL, attended the festivities.
